Suckling:"Enormously concentrated and structured, this giant dry riesling is only just beginning to open. There’s plenty of candied citrus here, but the more balsamic notes are what give it the excitement (also because they aren’t exactly typical for this generally charming vintage). Enormous textural complexity and a long, dark mineral finish. Limited production. Bottled after 22 months on the full lees in large neutral oak without sulfur. Drinkable now, but best from 2024."

Parker:"From the coolest part of the Gräfenberg and aged on the full lees for 21 months, the 2020 Monte Vacano is pure, fresh and slatey on the intense but fragrant nose. On the palate, this is a dense, highly energetic, finely tannic, substantial, slightly creamy yet very persistent and stimulatingly salty Riesling with lots of grip and complexity yet still not showing all of its potential. Very promising, though. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2022.

Wilhelm Weil is enthusiastic about the 2021 vintage. From the end of September, he said it was possible to harvest grapes that were "healthy as a core and rich in extract," which led to "dense cool-climate Rieslings" after the three previous warm vintages (2018–2020). The striking acidity of the vintage is well buffered by the potassium stored in the grapes and allows the Rieslings to shine and dance despite their substance. This was not foreseeable in the fall. But the "enthusiasm curve" rose steeply with the tasting of the young wines in the spring, so Weil is now convinced in the summer that the 2021 vintage will be celebrated in a few years and decades as one of the great ones. For himself, it is also clear that he has not yet processed a better one."

WeinWisser:"Sehr feiner, vielschichtiger Duft mit Zitrus- und würzigen Hefenoten. Dahinter auch kräutrig-mineralische Töne. Im Mund sehr dicht gewoben mit viel Substanz und zupackender Säure, die Struktur ist voll da mit noch ganz feinem Gerbstoff. Von der Länge her kommt er zwar (noch) nicht an den 2019er und 2018er heran, aber das kann ja noch werden und es wird sich erst im Rückblick zeigen, wer in 10 Jahren die Nase vorne hat."
